Is The Republican Party the Party of White Supremacy?
A famous Black public intellectual recently noted that “The Republican Party is the party of white supremacy.” This statement implies that the Democratic party isn't similarly oppressive. I find thinking that privileges the morality of one white racist group over another, to be well....naïve.
Two quick points: 1. Black people are colonized in the United States Empire. This country enslaved us, attempted to dehumanize us, and then continued to exploit our labor/ideas and to denigrate and mistreat us in every way over 100 years after enslavement. The entire structure and foundation of this country is imperialist and oppressive, and despite scores of liberal legislation, remains as such. We are still lynched, denied justice, and kept impoverished and miseducated throughout this county. The agencies of this government and its societal institutions and businesses, work to uphold the racist nature of the United States. So it is fair to say that most of them are white supremacist.
2. Surely the most impressive and useful arsenal of intellectuals is their arsenal of ideas. The greatest facilitator of idea formation and communication is language. The basic building blocks of language are words. This implies that intellectuals must wield words and language the way a Jedi Knight does his or her light-saber: With strength, agility and precision. Black intellectuals challenging white supremacy are mandated to wield the sword of language and ideas to metaphorically decapitate the multiple heads of white supremacy. We do this by telling the truth, clarifying and explaining the truth, and accurately exposing enemies or opposition forces attempting to conceal truth. There is - as one might imagine little room for confusion in this mission.
That said, allow me to tweak the statement in question to be reflective of my political beliefs:
ALL POLITICAL PARTIES IN THE UNITED STATES THAT DO NOT SUPPORT THE LIBERATION AND SELF-DETERMINATION OF BLACK PEOPLE, PARTICIPATE IN THE OPPRESSION OF BLACK PEOPLE AND WHO WORK WITH, ARE FUNDED BY AND ANSWER TO WHITE PEOPLE, ARE BY DEFINITION, “THE PARTY OF WHITE SUPREMACY.”
I DO NOT SUPPORT OUR TENDENCY TO SPEND TIME DISTINGUISHING THIS GROUP OF WHITE FOLK FROM THAT ONE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE SIMPLY VARIED REPRESENTATIONS OF THE SAME GREED, SELFISHNESS AND EXPLOITATION. I LET NONE OF THEM OFF THE HOOK.”
